Charge temperature

Make roasting easier by knowing the most important terms. For example, do you know what we mean when we talk about the charge temperature? Let’s dive into it!

Various circumstances

The temperature of your coffee roaster depends on various circumstances. For example, have you been burning all day or did you just start? And is it hot that day or cold? These are all circumstances that can influence the actions to get the perfect charge temperature. Sometimes it takes much more time to heat your roaster than other times. One thing for sure: you must take this seriously because it affects the bean flavor in the end.

What does the charge temperature mean?

The charge temperature is one of the first things you have to deal with when you start roasting. Simply said: it’s the drum temperature just before adding the beans. This may not sound that important, but it definitely is. When your charge temperature is not on point, it can affect the whole roast. For example, when the temperature is too low, this hinders the flavor development of the beans. It can even cause baked coffee. When the temperature is too high, the beans can get burned from the outside. Something you don’t want either.

Best temperature

We talked enough about the importance of the charge temperature. If you are wondering what the exact and best temperature is, we have to disappoint you. The exact temperature depends on several things. For example, the size of your roaster and the roast you like to implement. In this case, there is no exact right or wrong.
