When we start to talk about coffee, most of the time we can’t manage to stop. What can we say? At Giesen we don’t just love to build our Tostadores de café, we love everything about the coffee process. Which is why we share these five facts about coffee.
1. The history of coffee
There are lots of different stories about the beginning of the coffee bean. Legend has it that in the 9th century there was a goat herder named Kaldi who discovered the benefits of coffee, because of his goats. They got a lot of energy after eating the beans.
Another story is about the monks. They were disappointed in the taste of the coffee cherry, so they threw them in the fire. After a while, the smell convinced them to give the beans another shot.

2. Coffee consumers compared
Around the world, lots of people love the black beverage. But did you know that Finland consumes the most coffee? They drink 12 kg per person, per year. This is a lot in comparison to, for example, Canada where it’s only 6.2 kg. In the Netherlands, the origin of Giesen, we fulfill the fifth place in the ranking. Dutch people drink 8.4 kg coffee per person.

It’s because of the unusual production process. The coffee beans are digested and then pooped out by the civet. The price of this black gold can amount to $100.
